The New York Mets need some help with their starting rotation after falling short in the National League Championship series to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
They have already signed Frankie Montas to a two-year, $34 million contract, but Sean Manaea, Luis Severino and Jose Quintana are free agents.
They could sign a top-level pitcher like Jack Flaherty, Corbin Burnes or Max Fried.
But they could also look to bring back some of their starters from this year.
Zachary D.
Rymer of Bleacher Report predicts that New York will re-sign Manaea.
"The Mets are the boring pick for the No.
1 spot on this list.
Yet it was undeniably a good partnership that the two sides had in 2024, and the interest in keeping it going is mutual," Rymer wrote.
"But with the Mets and various free agents, it's not 'either/or' but rather 'yes, and.'" Manaea had a strong year with New York after signing a two-year deal with the team.
He opted out after going 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 63 walks, 184 strikeouts and a 3.0 WAR.
The veteran left-hander also pitched 181 2/3 innings in his 32 starts.
Joel Reuter predicts his next deal will be worth $90 million over five years.
The Mets should be able to get a deal done, especially if they plan on spending big this winter.
They should also still have room to sign other free agents.
We'll see if they can keep Manaea around.
